Eco School

What is an Eco-School?

The Eco-School's programme is an international initiative designed to encourage whole-school action for the environment. It is a recognised award scheme that accredits schools who make a commitment to continuously improve their environmental performance. It is also a learning resource that raises awareness of environmental and sustainable development issues through activities being linked to curricular subjects and areas. The aim of the Eco-School programme is to make environmental awareness and action an intrinsic part of the life and ethos of the school for both pupils and for staff and to engage the wider community. There are ten topic areas which need to be addressed as an Eco-School. These include: Litter, Waste Minimisation, Energy, Water, Transport, Health and Well-being, School Grounds, Biodiversity, Sustaining Our World, and Food and the Environment. Ochil Tower was delighted to be awarded its first Green Flag in 2010.
